Rwanda Village Community Promoters in collaboration with Huye district authorities and GlobeMed initiated a community health clinic at Rukira in HUYE sector.
Prior to the clinic’s creation, patients had to travel long distance to reach the nearest Sovu Health Center. The Health clinic is currently operational and provides basic health services.
Since their partnership with GlobeMed at GWU started in 2007, the partnership has led to a refurbished health clinic with running water, electricity, and a new waiting room. Furthermore, they have initiated a Maternal Health Education and Income Generation Program for 150 mothers in rural Huye that seeks to empower women and reduce malnutrition in their children.
Aims
- Continue to improve the Huye Health Clinic, creating solutions to problems such as logistics and lack of medical equipment.
- Expand upon the Maternal Health Education Program in order to ultimately provide holistic, sustainable healthcare to the poorest families in Southern Rwanda.
Another important project which is still in process is the medical students volunteering service. Rwandan and international medical students, as part of their medical clerkship, will perform weekly visits to the Health Clinic to help the nurses in the management of patients.
